Free virus scan and free removal software

The need for free virus scan and free removal programs doesn't
become apparent until after a computer becomes infected. Computer viruses and malware can also make it very difficult to get online to perform an online scan, or to download and update large antivirus programs. Even if you've never or rarely been affected by viruses, its always wise to have some sort of antivirus protection permanently installed on your computer.

Anti Virus download, install and scan tips

1:     First, download free antivirus software. AVGAvast, Avira, Malwarebytes, Ad-aware are just a few of the more popular
antivirus and anti-malware programs available for download on the Internet. They all provide free virus scan and free  removal. These programs have been around for years and literally have been downloaded hundreds of millions of times.

2:
If you're unable to download because a virus has compromised your Internet
connection, get to a different computer and make the download there. It maybe necessary to invest in a USB flash drive to transport the software.  A 4gb flash drive costs between $10 - $15. Leave the original antivirus programs on the flash drive  after you copy them to your computer. They dont take up much room and may come in handy later. You could also copy the  antivirus software to a cd-rom disc if you don't have a flash drive. Copy the antivirus and or anti-malware to your  computers hard drive.  Many programs are self extracting exe files and are very easily installed. After the exe file  is on your hard drive, go to your computer and double click on the newly copied exe file. Follow the installation  instructions.
3:    If a virus is preventing you from installing, try booting your computer into windows safemode. To initiate safemode, reboot your computer and hit F8 a few times while the computer is booting up. A screen will appear with  several boot options. Choose safemode with networking. You can also scan for viruses while in safemode.

4
:   After installation, try to update the antivirus software. If downloading an update isn't possible due to a bad Internet connection, try running the software as is. Some antivirus programs come with an out of date virus definition table. You may be able to clean up your computer enough to update the software after an initial scan, then rescan your computer again after updating.
Disconnecting the computer from the Internet before virus scanning may also help. That way Malware wouldn't be able to use the Internet to foul things up during the scanning process.

5:     Scan for viruses. There are 2 types of scan you can make, full (complete) or quick(partial). Since this is a new  antivirus installation, I would favor making a full scan. How long a full scan will take depends on how much data is on  the hard drive. Full scans normally take a longtime, but will do the most thorough job. If the virus has really fouled up the computer making scanning difficult, I would attempt a quick scan first. A quick scan will check more commonly  infected areas of your computer.  A quick scan would do the most good in the shortest time.

6:    After antivirus programs are installed, they need to be kept up to date. New viruses are written and uploaded to  the internet everyday. If antivirus software isn't updated daily, or at least weekly, they may make virus removal ineffective against the latest and greatest threats that reside on the Internet.  Antivirus updates not only update the existing virus definition table, but occasionally update the software as well.

7:    Reboot your computer. Whew!

Free antivirus software vs. purchased

Although the free antivirus software mentioned throughout this webpage will perform a free virus scan and free  removal, they lack many features of full purchased versions. For example, free versions WILL make full or quick  scans and remove viruses on internal hard drives and memory.

A full licensed version will include:

-
Real time virus and malware protection. This will prevent you from accidentally downloading viruses and alert
you if  you happen upon a website that contains viruses or malware while web surfing.

-
The ability to scan flash drives. Viruses commonly use flash drives to get from one computer to another.
- Schedule automatic virus table updates and scans.  Virus scans and updates could be set up to be executed at night when no one is using the computer.
-
 Better customer support.

It depends on an individuals computer knowledge, usage, and web surfing habits as to how much virus protection  is needed.  If you rarely have virus problems and have the time to deal with viruses or malware as needed, then a  free version of antivirus software would be sufficient.

If you lack the time or expertise to make a free virus scan and free removal, then purchase a fully licensed version  that can be configured to  keep your computer free of viruses automatically. Prices are reasonable ranging from $30  to $50. Do some research before you buy.
